Andy Karl

Karl's Broadway credits include 9 to 5, Legally Blonde and Saturday Night Fever. He originated the role of Luke in Altar Boyz and has also appeared in The Wedding Singer, Disney's On the Record and Sondheim's Saturday Night.

Full given name: Andrew Karl. I prefer Andy... or AK47 on the softball field.
Hometown: Baltimore, MD
Zodiac Sign: Virgo... the Virgin. Yeah right.
Audition song/monologue: Haven't had one since that last time Jay Binder made fun of me singing "This Is the Moment" years ago.
Special skills: I can turn any genuine moment into a sarcastic one in the blink of an eye. Also play piano, guitar, rollerblade and play a mean third base in softball.

First Broadway show you ever saw: My parents took me to see Anything Goes with Patti LuPone. Later, on a school field trip, I saw Into the Woods with Bernadette Peters. Great days in theatre. Broadway keeps getting bigger and better. Come see Wicked... did I mention I'm in it?

If you could go back in time and catch any Broadway show, what would it be? Original productions of Hair and West Side Story and Jesus Christ Superstar. There were a few performances of Legally Blonde that I wished I had seen, where I was off stage and an actor slipped and the golf cart almost drove off the stage.
Current show you have been recommending to friends: Wicked... did I mention I'm in it? No kidding around, I really recommend Wicked. There's a reason it's been running this long. The cast and production team keep this show very fresh and very well performed. Trust me, we rehearse a lot... a little too much in my book, but what can you say when it's so fresh! Memphis is great too. I saw the show and became a fan. Great music.
Favorite showtune: "Dancing Through Life" from Wicked. Did I mention...? If you ever heard Orfeh sing anything it would be your freakin' favorite. When I saw her sing "If I Can't Have You" in Saturday Night Fever, it took the show to a new level. Same thing for "Make Like a Nail" in Trailer Park... just awesome.

MAC or PC? Commodore 64
Most played song on your iPod: "Club Banger" by Petey Pablo and "See Off This Mountain" by Edwin McCain.
Web obsession: YouTube "Fails"
Last book you read: "The Areas of My Expertise" by John Hodgman, the PC guy in the MAC commercials. Does that make me kind of a PC person? I guess I might be little bi-operating-system curious.
Must-see TV shows: "Top Chef"!! Last series I watched was "Lost"... who didn't? I hear "Mad Men" is awesome.
Favorite board/card game: Poker, followed by chess. Orfeh just bought me a new chess set.
Pop-culture guilty pleasure: "Bro's Ice-ing Bro's" Was just introduced to this. It's when a friend finds a creative way to hand you a Smirnoff Ice, one of the worst adult beverages created, but you have to get on one knee and slam it down. So stupid, but it makes me laugh every time I think of it. I will not be doing this for anyone at the stage door by the way.

First CD/Tape/LP you owned: Van Halen's "Diver Down" and "License to Ill" by Beastie Boys. Such white boy music.
First stage kiss: Awesome

In between matinee and evening shows I eat Subway! Keepin it FRESH!

Pre-performance rituals or warm-ups: Stretch... vocalize... jump-rope... freak out... feel awesome.

Worst job you've ever had: Distributing the Yellow Pages
Who would play you in the movie? Justin Beiber... after his 15 minutes of fame.
Leading man role you've been dying to play: Did I mention I'm Fiyero in Wicked? Oh, I did? Great role.
Favorite screen or television role: Filming Legally Blonde the Musical was fun. Also, a Longhorn steakhouse commercial.
Who have you played on "Law & Order"? What edition? I have had a recurring role as the guy who's never been on "Law & Order"... any edition! Hello "Law & Order" casting directors!
Three things you can't live without: iPhone, iPhone and iPhone. Am I right, or am I right?
