The Spelvin Society — based on the Spelvin Luncheon, a frequent theatrical event that began in 1966 and was hosted by late former Playbill editor Leo Lerman — offers theatregoers a night out on the town and includes dinner at a local restaurant prior to the show, a post-performance talkback and a nightcap to follow.

This all-inclusive evening to On the Town marks the first Spelvin Society event of the new theatrical season. The evening commences with dinner at one of the theatre district's best restaurants, Chez Josephine, and continues to the newly refurbished Lyric Theatre for the show. Immediately following the performance, our members enjoy dessert, bubbly and a visit from the show's team at Broadway's landmark hangout, Sardi's.

As has become custom with Spelvin Society events, it's safe to say we'll get an impromptu performance or two from some of our famous friends. Click here to see our famous alumni.

On the Town, which began performances Sept. 20 at Broadway's Lyric Theatre, features music by Leonard Bernstein and a book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The production, which marks the 70th anniversary of the classic musical, is directed by Tony winner John Rando, who helmed the recent, critically acclaimed City Center Encores! and Barrington Stage productions of On the Town.

The cast is headed by Tony Yazbeck, Jay Armstrong Johnson and Clyde Alves as the sailors on 24-hour shore leave who take on the Big Apple; Megan Fairchild, Alysha Umphress and Elizabeth Stanley as the women who steal their hearts; and Jackie Hoffman in the role of Madame Dilly with Tony Award winner Michael Rupert as Judge Pitkin, Allison Guinn as Lucy Schmeeler, Tony nominee Phillip Boykin and Stephen DeRosa.

"The Bronx is up, the Battery's down, and three sailors are hoping to get just a little bit lucky on their one day of leave in the Big Apple," according to press notes. "From the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Coney Island to Times Square and Carnegie Hall, On the Town zigzags through New York City as the sailors and the three high-spirited young women they meet chase love, dreams, and each other during an unforgettable day in the city that never sleeps."
