The fellowship is funded by the Minnesota-based philanthropic non-profit the Jerome Foundation, which supports the work of emerging artists and the organizations that nurture them. Finanical support also comes from the New York City Theatre Subdistrict Council.

According to the Lark, the 2012-2014 fellowship "is designed to provide financial, artistic, and career support to an emerging writer of extraordinary ability, promise, and vision." Drury will receive $25,000 her first year, with $15,000 to follow the second year. In addition, $10,000 in funding for travel for research and workshops will also be made available to Drury.

Drury will have access to the Lark's resources of workshops and residencies, as well as project meetings with Lark artistic director John Clinton Eisner and members of the organization's staff.

"It makes me feel like I can breathe," Drury said in a statement. "The Jerome will allow me to focus completely on my writing, which is dumbfounding, just like a slack-jawed opportunity. The Jerome will also allow me to travel to Morocco to conduct research for a play I have been wanting to write for years, which feels like an amazing opportunity both personally and professionally."

Drury's We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as South West Africa, From the German Sudwestafrika, Between the Years 1884-1915 premiered at Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago last spring. Her play Social Creatures will premiere at the Trinity Repertory Theater Company in 2013. She is a 2012-13 Van Lier Fellow at New Dramatists and a member of the Soho Rep Writer/Director lab, a 2010-12 New York Theater Workshop Emerging Artist of Color Fellow, a member of The Civilians’ R&D Group, a participant in The Playground at The Lark and a MacDowell colony fellow.
