String features a book by Sarah Hammond and music and lyrics by Adam Gwon. The musical, which was showcased in last year's National Alliance for Musical Theatre's 26th Annual Festival of New Musicals, is also the winner of a 2015 Richard Rodgers Studio Production Award. The four invitation-only Playwrights Horizons readings are directed by two-time Obie winner Lisa Peterson, with a cast that also includes Dwelyan David ("Gotham"), Keisha Gilles (Dreamgirls national tour), Chasten Harmon (Hair), Mallory Hawks (Seussical), Khalid Rivera (The Capeman, Juan Darien) and Katie Thompson (Giant, Pump Boys & Dinettes). Musical direction is by Vadim Feichtner.
Here's how the show is billed: "String is a modern-day twist on the story of the three Greek Fates who spin, measure and snip the string of our lives. When the oldest Fate (Blickenstaff) gets tangled up with a security guard (Gehling) in the basement of the tallest building in the world, one mistake leads to another (a lost pair of scissors, a kiss, a stolen string), and soon she’s breaking her own rules to offer immortality to an ordinary man. Can the fabric of the universe stand a flaw?"
The musical is also set to receive a concert presentation at Feinstein's/54 Below Feb. 16, 2016, as part of the New Musicals at 54 series.
