Jazz vocalist Freda Payne will kick off the season April 25-30 with a show titled Freda Payne Sings Fitzgerald & More. Payne will pay tribute to one of her greatest influences, Ella Fitzgerald, in her concerts. Cabaretgoers can expect to hear such tunes as "Goody Goody," "A Tisket A Tasket" and "Mack the Knife." Payne will also offer some of her signature tunes, including "Band of Gold" and "Bring the Boys Home." Lesbian comic Suzanne Westenhoefer will take to the Plush Room stage May 4-7, and she will be followed by Lypsinka!, May 10-21. John Epperson's (Lypsinka) latest show is titled The Passion of the Crawford, which is described as "a fantasia on the persona of an alternately complex and simple 20th century icon, the renowned Hollywood glamour goddess Joan Crawford." Passion features a re-creation of a live interview Crawford gave in 1973 at Town Hall.
Suede, a singer who also plays piano, trumpet and guitar, will perform June 1-4, and she will be followed by Mort Sahl's America. Sahl, the provocative political satirist, is scheduled for three short engagements: June 8-11, July 6-9 and Aug. 3-6.
An Intimate Evening with Jane Olivor will be presented June 15-18, and stage and screen star Dixie Carter will perform at the Plush Room June 20-July 2.
Cabaret favorite Andrea Marcovicci will celebrate her two decades playing the Plush Room with a show simply titled As Time Goes By . . . Celebrating 20 Years at the Plush Room. Marcovicci is scheduled to headline the club July 11-30.
Opera star Julia Migenes will conclude the season with Diva on the Verge. Migenes will perform Aug. 11-20.
