Revealing the XVIII Century passion between Brazilian poet Castro Alves and the famous actress Eugenia Camara, the drama Poet´s Love (Amor de Poeta) by Tiago Santiago opens May 15 at The Glaucio Gill Theatre in Rio de Janeiro. Directed by Andre Felipe Mauro, the play stars veteran actress Maria Claudia and author Tiago Santiago as the poet.

Identified as the "poet of the slaves" due to his dedication to slavery in his writings, Antonio Castro Alves has left a fascinating amount of work which reunites drama and poetry in the most romantic style ever written in the Portuguese language.

Attracted by the dramatic elements and the impeccable quality found in the Castro Alves' works, author Tiago Santiago decided to go deep into the poet's universe, affirming that Castro Alves had only two passions during his entire life: the freedom for slaves and his love for Eugenia.

Based on several of his poems and chronicles, this drama pictures the last night of the lovers, describing the scandalous and strong passion between the poet and the actress Eugenia Camara, who abandoned her husband and a small child to live with Castro Alves, at that time an adolescent of only sixteen.

Also featured is the work of Charles Moeller (Scenery Design), Aurelio di Simoni (Lighting Design) and Ronald Teixeira (Set Design). Performances are from Thursday to Sunday - 9 PM. Tickets cost R$10,00. Information call 021 547 7003 at The Glaucio Gill Theatre in Rio de Janeiro.
