The new "family-friendly" show premieres July 10 at 9:30 PM (ET) and will continue playing Tuesday nights.
Billed as a "sing-along variety game show," "Bee" will challenge contestants to sing the correct lyrics to popular songs. "Each episode will begin with an audience-wide sing-along where eight lucky contestants will be chosen to compete in a series of fun filled singing games," reads an NBC announcement. "In this exciting singing showdown, there's no middle ground for partially correct answers — contestants must be perfect or they're out of the game."
Born Joseph Anthony Fatone Jr., the Brooklyn native rose to fame with the boy band *N Sync. He made his Broadway debut as Mark in the musical Rent and went on to return to the boards in the revival of Little Shop of Horrors. His film credits include "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," "On the Line" and "The Cooler."
"We are also thrilled to have Joey on board to host," said NBC Entertainment executive vice president of alternative programming, development and specials Craig Plestis in a release. "He brings an added burst of energy and a legion of fans with his musical talent and infectious personality."
Along with Fatone, the show will feature all music performed by house band Ray Chew and the Buzz as well as "The Singing Bee" dancers, The Honeybees. One of the Honeybees is former Movin' Out star Holly Cruikshank. "The Singing Bee" is created and produced by Juma Entertainment, LLC and The Gurin Company. Phil Gurin and Robert C. Horowitz are executive producers. For more information visit NBC.com.
