News Portrait of a Season: Painting Honoring Broadway Circa 2002-03 Unveiled at Algonquin George S. Kaufman, Alexander Woollcott and the other theatrical members of the Algonquin Round Table would no doubt be pleased with the new painting which will be unveiled at their old haunt on July 31.

On that date, an artwork painted by Scott Fowler depicting the make-up of 2002-03 Broadway season will have its debut. The acrylic painting will contain scenes and images from each show which opened between June 2002 and May 2003. In attendance for the event will be cast members from Avenue Q, the first new musical of the current season, and a few 2003 Tony Award winners. The event takes place at 1 PM. A limited edition lithograph of the painting, signed by the artist, will be available for sale.

The Algonquin is already home to one theatre-oriented painting. An abstract portrait of the famed Round Table hangs near the back of the central lobby. It depicts, among others, critic Woollcott, playwright Kaufman, critic and playwright Dorothy Parker, playwright and novelist Edna Ferber, playwright Robert Sherwood, columnist Franklin P. Adams and critic and humorist Robert Benchley.
