Discover Card and the Times Square Business Improvement District (TS BID) have organized a special post-holiday discount program involving some 50 Times Square restaurants.

According to a spokesperson for the TS-BID, the promotion is aimed at New Yorkers.

“Now that the tourism and craziness of the holiday season has died down,” the spokesperson told Playbill On-Line, “Discover and the Times Square BID want people to come take advantage of the culture available in the area. The deals are slightly different from restaurant to restaurant—at one it might be buy one, get one free; or free desert and coffee at another restaurant; or a certain percentage off the bill at another. All you need to do to participate is to prove your Tri-state residency.”

While the program is aimed at area residents, out-of-towners aren’t excluded. Those using their Discover cards are also eligible for the special discounts.

Hal Linden (the upcoming The Gathering), Alice Ripley (The Rocky Horror Show), cabaret performer Jim Caruso, ABC News’ Sam Champion, TS-BID’s Chris Williams and Discover Card’s Gene Dobies were on hand for a kick off ceremony for the promotion at Duffy Square on Jan. 3. Forbidden Broadway’s Christine Pedi and the BID Kidz performed a musical theatre presentation created by the New Dance Group Arts Center and the TS-BID for the event.
