On Jan. 2, the Odyssey Theatre of Los Angeles hosted the American premiere of Theatre Kana, a leading alternative theatre group from Poland that was awarded "Best of the Festival" of the 1994 Edinburgh Festival. Theatre Kana's alternating Polish and English performances of Moscow-Petushki in rep with The Night, both based on writings by Russian author Venedict Erofeyev, have been extended, through Jan 26, one week longer than the scheduled closing date.
Theatre Kana's work is in the spirit of Grotowski and Crictor, and explores themes generally relating to man's loneliness, fear of death, and looking for love and god, through a clownish, carnival-type lens. Since 1978, Kana has been performing in Poland and in festivals around Europe.
Kana founder, script writer and director Zygmunt Duczynski will accompany an all male cast of three to Los Angeles.
