PlayBlog President Obama Hails Broadway at the White House (Video) The White House has released video of President Obama’s welcoming speech at a special concert saluting Broadway, which took place in the East Room July 19.


In his speech, the President paid tribute to “the power and the passion of Broadway music,” and to the American spirit that inspired its greatest composers (many of whom, Obama notes, were immigrants). He ended by quoting Mel Brooks’ belief that musicals “blow the dust off your soul.”

The concert that followed featured performances by plenty of Broadway’s top talent and is scheduled to air on PBS Oct. 20. Video of Obama’s speech follows:
