Pride and Prejudice, which will be the final show of the Guthrie’s 50th anniversary season, will begin previews July 6 prior to an official opening July 12. Performances will continue through Aug. 31.

The classic comedy Born Yesterday, previously scheduled for summer on the Wurtele Thrust, will appear in the 2013-14 season.

“This is one of the most loved stories ever told in the English language,” said Guthrie director Joe Dowling, who will helm the production, in a statement. “Even though Jane Austen wrote it as a novel, it adapts so beautifully for the stage because the characters are so strong. It’s going to be such a satisfying, rich experience for our audience.”

Pride and Prejudice, according to the Guthrie, tells the story of "Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy in 19th-century England; it has proven to have evergreen appeal to all generations with its depiction of manners, marriage and morality." An adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice" previously appeared at the Guthrie in the 2003-04 season; this summer’s production will be based on a different adaptation.
