News Prisoner of Second Avenue Begins Berkshire Fest Run July 21 The Berkshire Theatre Festival production of Neil Simon's The Prisoner of Second Avenue, starring Stephen DeRosa, begins performances July 21.

Warner Shook directs a cast that features DeRosa (Hairspray, Walmartopia) as Mel Edison, with Tony nominee Veanne Cox (Caroline, or Change) as Edna Edison, Denny Dillon (My One And Only) as Jessie, Jeanne Paulsen (The Kentucky Cycle) as Pauline, Alice Playten (Henry, Sweet Henry) as Pearl and Julian Gamble as Henry Edison. The Simon comedy, according to press notes, "tells the story of Mel and Edna Edison, a middle-aged couple living in New York, who find their luck is quickly deteriorating during a terrible heat wave and a garbage strike. When Mel cracks under the pressure, his family intervenes in an attempt to nurse him back to his old self, with predictably unpredictable results."

The Prisoner of Second Avenue has designs by Scott Bradley (scenic design), Laurie Churba (costume design), Mary Louise Geiger (lighting design) and Scott Killian (sound design).

The production officially opens July 25 and will run through Aug. 8. For tickets call the BTF box office at (413) 298-5576 or visit BerkshireTheatreFestival.
