News 'Pro-' Choice: Drama League Awards Announced, May 11 It's a "Pro...-choice" year for theatre awards as The Producers and Proof pick up yet another award at the Drama League's annual awards luncheon held May 11 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The Drama League also went cuckoo for Gary Sinise, Steppenwolf and their production of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

It's a "Pro...-choice" year for theatre awards as The Producers and Proof pick up yet another award at the Drama League's annual awards luncheon held May 11 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The Drama League also went cuckoo for Gary Sinise, Steppenwolf and their production of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

The Dinner Party's Henry Winkler served as host, presiding over the seven traditional Drama League award presentations. The Distinguished Performance Award happens to be theatre’s oldest honor, predating the Tony’s by 11 years. Past recipients include Frances Sternhagen, Eileen Heckart, Cherry Jones and Kathleen Chalfant.

Here are the 2001 Drama League winners:

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN MUSICAL THEATRE:
Susan Stroman for her work as director and choreographer for The Producers and the currently-running Contact and The Music Man

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE THEATRE:
Steppenwolf Theatre Company of Chicago in honor of their 25th anniversary season including this season's One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
