International theatre producer Joop van den Ende has done many an improbable thing - he brought the Titanic to New York City, 1776 to 1998, and he will put 42nd Street on 42nd Street.
For his work on Broadway and in Europe, van den Ende will be rewarded with a Richard Baratz caricature at Sardi's Restaurant at 5 PM on Nov. 16.
Owner and chairman of Stage Holding, a live entertainment company in Europe, van den Ende has produced more than 70 theatrical productions there, including Elisabeth, Chicago, 42nd Street and Rent. London's West End knows him for Fosse, Spend, Spend, Spend, Chicago and Tommy, while Broadway has seen him bring Cyrano, Hamlet, Victor/Victoria, Once Upon a Mattress, High Society, Wrong Mountain and Footloose.
Sardi's Restaurant, considered a theatrical institution and known for its portraits of famous theatre people past and present, is located at 234 West 44th Street.
