News Public Theater Aiming to Unveil Expanded Joe's Pub Mezzanine Lounge This Fall Tony Award-winning scenic designer David Rockwell's plans for an expanded 2,000-square-foot lounge at the Public Theater has been approved, according to a report in New York Magazine.

Representatives for the Public Theater declined to comment on the project that is planned to open this fall on the mezzanine level of Joe's Pub. The nightlife venue underwent a renovation last summer and re-opened to the public last fall.

Some 84 new seats will be added to the new lounge that expands on the current Joe's Pub liquor license. The Pub is also expanding its kitchen, which provides food service to the lounge.

Rockwell has designed Broadway's Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can, The Normal Heart and A Free Man of Color, among others. He is also an accomplished architect.
