News Public Theater Offers Free Shakespeare Performances in NYC Thru August The Public Theater will this summer, for the eighth year in a row, offer its "Shakespeare in the Boroughs" program, which provides all five boroughs of New York City with free performances of Shakespeare during the month of August.

The program was created to indoctrinate young New Yorkers into the joys of Shakespeare. Each show is followed by a moderated discussion. In collaboration with local arts and community organizations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island, the operation begins with scene study and some schooling in Shakespearean language, and culminates with the free shows. The schedule runs as follows:

The Bronx :  Aug. 7 at 3 PM at The Point Community Development Center, 940 Garrison Avenue at Manida Street; and Aug. 14 at 7 PM at The Lovinger Theatre at Lehman College, 250 Bedford Park, Boulevard West
Brooklyn: Aug. 7 at 4 PM at Brooklyn Childrenis Museum, 145 Brooklyn Avenue
Manhattan: Aug. 22 at 4 PM at Aaron Davis Hall, West 135th St. and Convent Avenue
Queens: Aug. 15 at 7 PM,Queens Theatre in the Park, Flushing Meadows Corona Park
Staten Island: Aug. 22 at 7 PM at Snug Harbour Cultural Centre, 1000 Richmond Terrace
