Classic Arts News Puccini's Il Trittico Airs This Week on PBS's Great Performances at the Met The Metropolitan Opera's production of Puccini's Il trittico (The Triptych) will be broadcast this week as part of the network's Great Performances at the Met series.
The staging was directed by the versatile Jack O'Brien, who has won Tony Awards for Henry IV, Hairspray and The Coast of Utopia. The telecast will be of the April 28 matinee transmitted live in high-definition video and audio in movie theaters.

In Il Tabarro, soprano Maria Guleghina plays Giorgetta, with tenor Salvatore Licitra as Luigi and baritone Juan Pons as Michele. Suor Angelica stars sopranos Barbara Frittoli (Sister Angelica) and Heidi Grant Murphy (Sister Genovieffa). The third opera, Gianni Schicchi, features baritone Alessandro Corbelli in the title role, soprano Olga Mykytenko (Lauretta) and tenor Massimo Giordano (Rinuccio). Mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe takes roles in all three operas.

PBS's Great Performances at the Met will air Il trittico beginning Thursday, June 14, with broadcasts at varying times through this and next week on various stations — check your local listings.
