The actresses will make an in-studio appearance to perform "What About Love," a song from the new musical, which is currently playing the Broadway Theatre. The two-hour program will also feature segments about Orson Welles' film "Mr. Arkadin," a panel discussion about art theft, the classical pianists the Five Browns and Harvard student and author Kaavya Viswanathan.
LaChanze, who plays Celie in The Color Purple, has also appeared on Broadway in Once on This Island, Ragtime, Company and Uptown . . . It's Hot! and Off-Broadway in Dessa Rose, The Vagina Monologues and The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin. She was Tony-nominated for her work in Once on This Island.
The Color Purple marks the Broadway debut for Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, who plays Shug Avery in the musical. Withers-Mendes is an accomplished singer, who also co-wrote "Emotions," which held the #1 spot on the Billboard Music Charts for several weeks. Her TV credits include "Between the Lions" and "Late Night Show with Conan O'Brien."
