News Queen Latifah to Host People's Choice Awards; "Mamma Mia!" Film Is a Nominee Actress-singer Queen Latifah, who appeared in the "Hairspray" and "Chicago" movie musicals, will host the upcoming People's Choice Awards, according to Variety.

The 35th Annual People's Choice Awards will be broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA, on CBS-TV Jan. 7, 2009. Host Latifah is also nominated in the Favorite Leading Lady category; others in that field include Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson. The international hit "Mamma Mia!" film has also been nominated as Favorite Movie Comedy. The movie musical, based on the Broadway and London productions of the same name, will vie for the title in a field that also includes "27 Dresses" and "Get Smart."

Queen Latifah was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance as Matron "Mama" Morton in the film of Kander and Ebb's "Chicago." The former hip-hop star has also appeared on screen in "Last Holiday," "Beauty Shop," "Scary Movie 3," "Bringing Down the House," "Brown Sugar," "Living with the Dead," "Living Out Loud" and "Hoodlum."
