A casting notice reveals that White Noise will arrive in Chicago April 1, 2011, towards an April 9, 2011, opening. The rock musical will begin rehearsals in New York City in early February. Producers are offering a six-month production contract. An official announcement of a Chicago bow for the musical has not been made.
White Noise premiered as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2006. Following a 2009 full production in New Orleans, a new incarnation of the musical received a New York workshop last summer. The project has been billed as Broadway bound, but the latest casting announcement makes no mention of future plans post Chicago.
As previously reported, Sergio Trujillo (Memphis, Jersey Boys, The Addams Family, Next to Normal) will direct and choreograph the musical that has a book by Matte O'Brien with music and lyrics by Robert Morris, Steven Morris and Joe Shane. Jesse Vargas will musical direct White Noise, which was first conceived by Ryan Davis.
White Noise is produced by Academy Award winner Whoopi Goldberg (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Sister Act), Holly Way, Jay Strommen and Tom Leonardis.
An earlier synopsis of the musical (in its New Orleans debut) read: "Eva and Kady Siller have established a small following as folk singers promoting messages of white power. They are discovered by a powerful New York manager who convinces them that they can penetrate the world of mainstream rock/pop, dramatically increasing their power, by simply coding the lyrics to their hate songs. Indeed, powerful packaging and a passive public are a dangerous combination."
