News Rags Reaps Nine Riches as FL Carbonell Nominations are Announced It may have been a flop on Broadway, but Rags has come up ermines in Florida, where the musical, staged by the Coconut Grove Playhouse, has just received nine Carbonell Award nominations, leading the field (and beating Caldwell Theatre's How I Learned to Drive by one). 29 shows at 12 theatres received nominations, with Actor's Playhouse scoring the most nods: 20.

It may have been a flop on Broadway, but Rags has come up ermines in Florida, where the musical, staged by the Coconut Grove Playhouse, has just received nine Carbonell Award nominations, leading the field (and beating Caldwell Theatre's How I Learned to Drive by one). 29 shows at 12 theatres received nominations, with Actor's Playhouse scoring the most nods: 20.

Thirty theatre professionals vote for the Carbonell nominations and awards, to be given out Nov. 8, 7:30 PM, at the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach. Now in its 24th year, the Carbonells are sponsored by the South Florida Critics' Circle and the Theatre League of South Florida. For tickets and information call (305) 674-1040.
