James D. Beeks, of the Broadway Ragtime ensemble, continues to step out of Coalhouse Walker Jr.'s shadow for the last of three solo cabaret shows 10:30 PM Dec. 28.

Beeks’ “Journey to the Past,” at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre in New York City, previously played there Dec. 7 and 13. The autobiographical storytelling draws on Broadway, pop and jazz material, supported by four musicians and, on Dec. 28, special guest star B.J. Crosby, of Smokey Joe’s Cafe.

The musical director is Billy Stein. Stafford Arima, resident associate director of Broadway's Ragtime, is “Journey to the Past” director.

Beeks, who was raised in Jacksonville, FL, has also appeared on Broadway in Smokey Joe's Cafe.
