Variety reports that Tony Award winner Michael Blakemore will direct the reading, which will feature the talents of Tom Wopat and Randy Graff. Richard East and Tim Woods are producing the book musical, which will boast new tunes by Goffin and King as well as such previous hits as "Natural Woman," "One Fine Day" and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?"
Several artists will pen the book of the musical, which the industry paper describes as a "Gotham-set romance." Book writers are set to include Rita Rudner, director Blakemore, Janis Hirsch, Hannie Rayson and Martin Bergmann.
No timeline has been announced for Natural Woman.
Randy Graff received a Tony Award for her performance in Cy Coleman's City of Angels, and her other Broadway credits include Fiddler on the Roof, A Class Act, High Society, Moon Over Buffalo, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Falsettos and Les Misérables as well as the City Center Encores! production of Do Re Mi. Off-Broadway she was seen in The Long Christmas Ride Home, Hotel Suite, A...My Name Is Alice, Coming Attractions and Pins and Needles as well as in the Williamstown Theatre Festival's mounting of The Threepenny Opera. Graff's screen credits include "Keys to Tulsa," "Moon Over Broadway," "Mad About You" and "Law & Order."
Tom Wopat received a Tony nomination for his role as Frank Butler opposite Bernadette Peters in the Broadway revival of Annie Get Your Gun. His other theatrical credits include Glengarry Glen Ross, Chicago, 42nd Street, I Love My Wife, Carousel, City of Angels and Guys and Dolls. Perhaps best known for his seven-season run on "The Dukes of Hazzard," Wopat has also released several albums with CBS and Capitol Records.
