The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic musical The King and I returns to cinemas August 28 and 31 in a special event presented by Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies and Twentieth Century Fox. The film will be shown in the same aspect ratio as when it was originally released in cinemas.

In celebration of the release, and the upcoming national tour of the recent, Tony Award-winning Lincoln Center revival which launches this fall, Playbill.com is sharing a look at a handful of rarely-seen photos from the film set and other Broadway incarnations of the musical.

The film version of the popular Rodgers & Hammerstein Broadway play The King and I was the winner of five Academy Awards (Best Actor, Best Musical Score, Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction & Set Decoration and Best Sound), and was nominated for four more (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Cinematography).
