The Public Theater celebrated the official opening of Rinne Groff's newest work Fire in Dreamland July 16. Set in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy and inspired by the 1911 fire that burned down Coney Island’s Dreamland amusement park, the play tells a story of taking risks and falling in love, and looks at our potential to create in the face of devastation.

Fire in Dreamland is directed by Marissa Wolf and stars Rebecca Naomi Jones and Enver Gjokaj with Kyle Beltran.
In the new play, a disillusioned 30-something woman (Jones) falls for a visionary European filmmaker (Gjokaj) making a film about the historic 1911 Coney Island fire. Performances began June 19 and are scheduled through August 5 in The Public’s Anspacher Theater.
