News Reading of Amelie Musical, Featuring a Book by Craig Lucas, Will Be Held in Manhattan in July A developmental lab of the musical Amelie will be held in New York this summer, according to an Equity casting notice.

Directed by Tony Award winner Pam MacKinnon (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Clybourne Park), the workshop which will begin July 18 and continue through Aug. 15.

Adapted from the award-winning 2001 film that starred Audrey Tautou as a shy waitress with a wild imagination, the musical features a book by Tony nominee Craig Lucas (The Light in the PiazzaPrelude to a Kiss), music by Dan Messe and lyrics by Nathan Tysen.

"All actors should possess an off center sense of humor and huge smarts," according to the casting notice. "Extremely interested in all ethnicities & body types. All roles must sing."

The upcoming audition is casting for the roles of Amandine/Gina/Sylvie, Suzanne/Collignon's mother, Georgette/Eva, Philomene/Blind Beggar/Fluffy, Joseph/Anchorman and Hipolito/Collignon's father.

The roles of Amelie, Nino, Young Amelie, Lucien/Gnome, Raphael/Bretodeux and Collingon/Dufayel have been cast.
