Actress and playwright Lynn Redgrave will present and star in a reading of her new play, The Mandrake Root, at Seattle's Intiman Theatre on July 26. Root will launch the 1999 series of play readings called "New Voices at Intiman."
The Mandrake Root is a portrayal of a mother and daughter coming to terms with the past and each other. When her famous husband dies, British actress Rose Randall finds herself in California in the temporary care of her expatriate daughter, Sally, and granddaughter, Kate, sifting through the remembered fragments of her life. As truths are told and secrets are revealed, mother and daughter will discover the true cost of love and the tenacity of the ties that bind. Intiman artistic director Warner Shook will direct.
Redgrave wrote and starred in the Tony and Drama Desk nominated, Shakespeare for My Father.
