News   Readings by Wright, Kane, Son, Kliewer at New Dramatists This Fall
New Dramatists, the New York institution that acts as an incubator for rising playwriting talents, will host a series of readings this fall, some by its current members, some by other scribes.

The fall series of readings begins on Sept. 8 with an evening of excerpts from the work of ND's new crop of resident playwrights, including Michael John Garces, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Daniel Alexander Jones, Julia Jordan, Ellen Maddow, Gary Sunshine, Anne Washburn and Barbara Wiechmann. The event is at 7 PM.

September and October will meanwhile see full readings of new plays by the 2003 "graduating" class (New Dramatists residents are tenured for seven years). The line-up runs: Anon by Kate Robin, Sept. 29; Bobby M by Eddie Sanchez, Sept. 30; Siberia by Diana Son, Oct. 3; The Devil's Playground by Doug Wright, Oct. 6; Messalina by Gordon Dahlquist, Oct. 7; Sandermania by Sander Hicks, Oct. 8. All readings are at 4 PM.

Among other events, on Sept. 16 at 4:30 PM, actress Michele LaRue will read poems about the theatre by her late husband, the playwright and scholar Warren Kliewer, a New Dramatists alum. The evening is called "Places Please, Act One."

Also, on Sept. 16 at 7 PM, the works of late British playwright Sarah Kane will be read and discussed. The event is curated by Christopher Shinn.

New Dramatists is located at 424 W. 44th Street. Call (212) 757-6960.
