Tony Award-winning Hair producer Andy Sandberg wrote the book for Beyond the Music, which has a score by Emmy Award-winning songwriter Cliff Downs and actress/writer Katie Kahanovitz.

Sandberg, who will also helm the invitation-only readings, previously directed Bullock and Padgett in August readings of Beyond the Music. Several cast members from those readings return for the latest stage of the musical's development.

In addition to Bullock (Ragtime, A Class Act), Padgett (Rock of Ages, Grease), Ryness (Hair) and Sengbloh (Hair, Fela), the readings will include Peter Gregus (Jersey Boys), Jesse Swenson (The Addams Family), Eric Anderson (South Pacific), Shelby Bartelstein, Jarid Faubel, Laura Thomas, Marie-France Arcilla, Jason Edward Cook, Jarid Faubel, Kevin Pariseau and Chelsea Morgan Stock (The Little Mermaid).

Fred Lassen is musical director for Beyond the Music. The stage manager is Ashley Rodbro.

According to the authors, "Beyond the Music follows the journey of Casey, a fast-rising singer/songwriter, as she strives to make her way in the music business. Sacrificing her personal life for her career, Casey is finally making the right connections and paving her way to the top. She is on the verge of her first big break when she discovers it’s not so easy to separate her passion for music from her relationships, and she is betrayed by those she loves. Taking a look at the treacherous waters of the music business and its wide array of extreme personalities, Beyond the Music is a funny, contemporary, and inspiring story about finding oneself and overcoming the odds to achieve a dream." In addition to the Tony Award-winning revival of Hair, which he also co-produced in London, Sandberg produced the New York premiere of A Perfect Future and the world premieres of Tony nominee Bill Russell and Peter Melnick's The Last Smoker in America and the Hal Prince musical Paradise Found in London. Sandberg has also directed readings of Summer Schlock and the NYMF production of Bernice Bobs Her Mullet.
