Sheryl Kaller (world premiere of Mothers and Sons) directs the new work, which casts Henderson (The Whale) as Emma, Kirby (Defender of the Faith at Irish Rep) as Pastor Hidge, Rebhorn (Twelve Angry Men) as James and Somerville (Over Here) as Rose. Performances continue through Jan. 5, 2014.

Here's how Roundabout Theatre Company bills the new work: "Following the death of her husband (Rebhorn), Rose (Somerville) locks herself in her bedroom for the better part of a year, leaving her daughter Emma (Henderson) to care for her through the closed door. When the church sends a pastor (Kirby) to help coax Rose out of her room, he soon finds that Rose is not the only one using barriers to hide her true feelings."

Playwright Kennedy is the winner of the 2012 David Calicchio Emerging American Playwright Prize for her play Light. Her play Too Much, Too Much, Too Many was developed at the 2012 PlayPenn Conference and earned her Writer-In-Residence at the 2012 Cape Cod Theatre Project. She is also the author of The Greenest Month. She was a nominee for the 2013 Suzan Smith Blackburn Prize and a finalist for the 2013 Page 73 Playwriting Fellowship, 2011 PlayPenn Conference, 2011 Seven Devils Conference and 2011 Bay Area Playwrights Festival.

The creative team also includes Wilson Chin (set design), Jess Goldstein (costume design), Zach Blane (lighting design) and Broken Chord (original music and sound).

Too Much, Too Much, Too Many launches the seventh season of Roundabout Underground, an initiative to "showcase new plays that will either allow an experienced director to go back to his/her creative roots or give a debut production to an emerging writer or director." The 62-seat Black Box Theatre allows Roundabout to take artistic risks that are better suited for a more intimate space. All tickets for Roundabout Underground productions are $20.

Prior productions include the acclaimed world premieres of Stephen Karam’s Speech & Debate (2007), Steven Levenson's The Language of Trees (2008), Adam Gwon's Ordinary Days (2009), Kim Rosenstock's Tigers Be Still (2010), David West Read's The Dream of the Burning Boy (2011), Andrew Hinderaker's Suicide, Incorporated (2011) and Joshua Harmon's Bad Jews (2012).
