News Rebecca Luker Will Join Broadway’s Fun Home Tony Award nominee Rebecca Luker will step into the Tony-winning Broadway musical for a limited time.

Rebecca Luker will take on the role of family matriarch Helen Bechdel April 5­–May 22. She’ll step in for Tony nominee Judy Kuhn, who is taking a leave of absence to undergo hip surgery. Kuhn, who earned a Tony nomination for her performance, is expected to return to Fun Home May 24.

“This hip surgery is something I’ve needed to do for a long time,” Kuhn said. “I’m so thrilled that Rebecca is stepping in for me – she’s a dear friend, and I admire her work so much. And I can’t wait to return to the show pain-free and with a new hip!”

Luker is a Tony Award nominee for Mary Poppins, The Music Man and Show Boat.

Producers also stated that Tony-nominated cast member Emily Skeggs, who plays Medium Alison, will also return to the Broadway production March 24. Skeggs has also been on leave in order to film TV work. Lauren Patten has been playing the role in her absence.

The cast also features Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris, Tony Award nominee Beth Malone, Lauren Patten, Gabriella Pizzolo, Roberta Colindrez, Zell Steele Morrow, Joel Perez and Oscar Williams, along with Alessandra Baldacchino, Kally Duling, Presley Ryan, Perry Sherman, Jim Stanek and Nicole Van Giesen.

The Tony-winning Best Musical has music by Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by Lisa Kron and direction by Sam Gold.
