News Recording Thoroughly Modern Millie Examined at Free April 5 Event A free program open to the public entitled “Only in New York: Recording Thoroughly Modern Millie” will be held April 5 at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts’ Bruno Walter Auditorium.

Panelists for “Only in New York” include Thoroughly Modern Millie composer Jeanine Tesori, lyricist Dick Scanlan, musical director Michael Rafter and producer Mike Isaacson as well as the album’s producer, Bill Rosenfield. Kevin Winkler will serve as the moderator for the afternoon, which begins at 3 PM.

Offered in conjunction with the current exhibition “Original Cast Recordings,” the panel discussion will include a step-by-step look at the creation of the cast album for the Tony-winning musical, including the history and pre-production process, the recording session, the post production process and the marketing and promotion of the CD. A question-and-answer session will follow.

The afternoon will also feature a display of several Millie items: record producer Jay David Saks’s handwritten breakdown of the show with his notes for how to record it, a studio log showing how each take progressed, photographs of the recording session, promotional materials and photographs of record store events.

The Bruno Walter Auditorium is located at Amsterdam Avenue and 65th Street.
