The Off-Broadway company, a recent Tony Randall Theatrical Grant recipient, focuses on producing works of the Jacobean era with an emphasis on Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
Red Bull's Revelation Readings feature veteran actors offering staged readings of rarely produced works and favorite classics. The 2008-2009 line-up includes Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, John Marston's Malcontent, Percy Bysshe Shelley's Cenci, Ben Jonson's The Silent Woman, and the New York premiere of contemporary playwright Amy Freed's Restoration Comedy.
Other works that may populate the Revelation Readings include William Congreve's Old Bachelor and Miguel de Cervantes' Siege of Numantia.
In addition to its upcoming production of Thomas Middleton's Women Beware Women, Red Bull artistic director Jesse Berger states that works under consideration for full production in the coming year include Measure for Measure, Duchess of Malfi, A New Way to Pay Old Debts, The Just, and Volpone.
Kay Matschullat's contemporary revision of Alfred de Musset's On ne badine pas avec l'amour, entitled Don't Fuck With Love – a previous Revelation Reading offering – is under consideration for Red Bull's In-the-Raw workshop program. Another contender is Don Jonny, a new rock musical based on Don Juan, by Anton Dudley and Jonathan Spottiswoode. The Red Bull Theater Company can be located on the web at www.redbulltheater.com.
