Directed by one of Japan's foremost men of the theatre, Hideki Noda, Red Demon is a universal story with a Japanese sensibility, acted by a European cast. Underscored with Noda's trademark wit, this is a play that reveals the conflict between compassion and suspicion in a closed community.
Red Demon is one of a series of plays lined up for the Young Vic, which as a theatre is maintaining its reputation for presenting international plays as well as fascinating new takes on established British classics - as with the relocation of Hobson's Choice (opens July 2) from Edwardian to modern-day Salford, where it is now set in an Asian family rather than an English one.
