Michael Cunningham ("The Hours," Flesh and Blood) penned the screenplay with Minot for the Hart-Sharp Entertainment production. Lajos Koltai directed the film, which will be released by Focus Features June 29.
"Evening" centers on a woman (Redgrave) with terminal cancer whose children rally around her as she harkens back to memories of her youth and a romantic weekend when she met the love of her life. Danes and Gummer — Streep's real-life daughter — play younger versions of Redgrave and Streep's characters, while Richardson plays an on-screen daughter to her real-life mom Redgrave.
Redgrave (The Year of Magical Thinking), Streep (Mother Courage and Her Children), Danes (Edith & Jenny), Gummer (Mr. Marmalade), Richardson (Cabaret) are joined by fellow stage brethren Collette (The Wild Party), Close (Sunset Boulevard) and Atkins (Doubt).
The men featured in the film also list stage credits on their resumes: Patrick Wilson (The Full Monty, Oklahoma!), Hugh Dancy (Journey's End ) and Barry Bostwick (Grease, The Robber Bridegroom).
