The symposium, titled "American Society and the Arts," will also include appearances by historian David McCullough and Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia. Juilliard president Joseph W. Polisi is the moderator.
McCullough will speak on the role of the arts in American history; Scalia will discuss the relationship between the law and the arts. Fleming, Sondheim, and Polisi will discuss the fate of artistic works that do not have broad commercial appeal.
The event begins at 1:30 p.m. A limited number of tickets are available from the Juilliard box office.
