To paraphrase REM, Off-Off-Broadway audiences have been humming all the way to Reno — not the place but to the solo performance artist comedienne. She's been playing at La MaMa E.T.C. most of the fall and continues there through Jan. 13.

Reno's show, Rebel Without a Pause, was originally scheduled to run Oct. 4-21. It was then extended to an open run that was later cut short to Dec. 17. Instead of the well-received show closing, however, it will now move to a different space in the La MaMa complex, the First Floor Theatre. Reno does continue an open run, though, Sunday evenings at Marion's Restaurant at 354 Bowery.

After the events of Sept. 11 at the World Trade Center, Reno threw out the original script for her solo and now follows a more stream-of consciousness monologue that changes with current events and her own feelings.

A statement to the press explains "her material is always shifting and in the moment. It was actually invigorating to her to toss out much of her material ... and start over." Reno believes that this performance has more of a town-meeting kind of feel, allowing audiences to speak out as much as she does.

Reno herself speaks out on topics of the hour such as patriotism, young war-mongers, ignorant citizens and the idea of self-imprisonment in these newly-formed monologues. Reno got her start in 1990 in her Off Broadway show Reno: In Rage and Rehab, and has go on to make shows like Reno Once Removed and the HBO Special Reno Finds Her Mom, co-starring Lily Tomlin and Mary Tyler Moore.
