The centre of Adelaide's theatre life, the Festival Centre, plans to celebrate it's 25th anniversary with a 3 million dollar facelift and upgrade. As with most of the world's theatrical venues and entertainment complexes, refurbishment is deemed necessary to enhance it's aesthetics and technical capabilities, ensuring the centre's viability in the new millenium.
The South Australian Arts Minister, Ms. Laidlaw, has announced plans to improve signage, access for the disabled, seating and foyers. Acoustics, which until now have been the focus of criticism during orchestral and opera performances, will also be developed.
The refurbishment is expected to be completed for the November and December production of Wagner's Ring, and Australian first.
