As a follow-up to his powerhouse 1995-96 season directing the West Coast premiere of Tony Kushner's Slavs!, the world premiere of Randy Newman's Faust, -- not to mention the world premiere of the Pulitzer-winning musical Rent , which earned him a Tony nomination on Broadway -- La Jolla Playhouse artistic director Michael Greif will direct the premiere of Diana Son's comedy, Boy, June 11 to July 14.
After Boy, Greif will head for Goodman Theatre in Chicago to direct a revised version of Randy Newman's Faust that will run Sept. 20 to Nov. 2.
Boy is the story of a couple who already have three girls, and try one more time for a boy. When the fourth child is a girl, they decide to raise her as a boy, with resulting confusion and comic complications.
Son's Fishes was produced at the Mark Taper Forum in LA; her R.A.W. ('Cause I'm a Woman) was done at the New York Shakespeare Festival.
