News "Rent" Film DVD Is Week's Top Seller It may have done mediocre business at the box office, but the DVD of the "Rent" film is selling exceptionally well.

For the week ending Feb. 26, the DVD of the Chris Columbus-directed film was the top-selling disc, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Other top sellers include "Domino" (New Line Cinema), "Saw II" (Lionsgate), "Ultimate Avengers: The Movie" (Lionsgate), "Grey's Anatomy (Season 1)" (Buena Vista) and "North Country" (Warner Home Video).

The special two-DVD set of the “Rent” film, based on Jonathan Larson’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical of the same name, arrived in stores Feb. 21 on the Sony Pictures Home Entertainment label.

Available in both widescreen and fullscreen formats, the DVDs come with over three hours of special features. The complete list of bonus material follows:
•Five deleted scenes and musical performances
•Director and selected cast commentary
•"No Day But Today,” a five-part feature-length documentary, which includes a biography of composer Larson, the creation of the musical and its journey to Broadway, and the making of the movie

The DVDs also include two public service announcements, one for the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation and another for the National Marfan Foundation.

The DVD has a list price of $28.96. The film of "Rent" — which hit movie theatres across the country Nov. 23 — stars Adam Pascal (as Roger Davis), Anthony Rapp (as Mark Cohen), Rosario Dawson (as Mimi), Taye Diggs (as Benjamin "Benny" Coffin III), Wilson Jermaine Heredia (as Angel Schunard), Jesse L. Martin (as Thomas B. "Thom" Collins), Idina Menzel (as Maureen Johnson) and Tracie Thoms (as Joanne Jefferson).

Rent updates Puccini's La Bohème to the East Village of the late 1990s, with artists and lovers struggling to connect in a world that is chaotic, shallow and tinged with disease. The late Larson wrote Rent's book, music and lyrics. The 1996 Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning musical continues at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City.
