News "Rent" Soundtrack Remains on Billboard Charts The soundtrack to Chris Columbus' "Rent" — featuring a score by the late Jonathan Larson — continues to do well on the Billboard charts.

The double "Rent" CD, released Sept. 27 on the Warner Bros. label, currently ranks No. 6 on Billboard's Top Soundtracks chart. The single CD, "Rent: Selections from the Original Motion Picture," places one notch higher, at No. 5.

The two "Rent" recordings can also be found in the current Billboard 200 chart. The single CD ranks No. 127, while the two-CD set can be found in the No. 138 position.

"Love Heals," a song penned by the late Jonathan Larson but not included in the original Broadway production of Rent, can be heard on the new recording. The Chris Columbus-directed film of "Rent" — which opened in movie theatres around the country Nov. 23 — stars Adam Pascal (as Roger Davis), Anthony Rapp (as Mark Cohen), Rosario Dawson (as Mimi), Taye Diggs (as Benjamin "Benny" Coffin III), Wilson Jermaine Heredia (as Angel Schunard), Jesse L. Martin (as Thomas B. "Thom" Collins), Idina Menzel (as Maureen Johnson) and Tracie Thoms (as Joanne Jefferson).

Rent updates Puccini's La Boheme to the East Village of the late 1990's, with artists and lovers struggling to connect in a world that is chaotic, shallow and tinged with disease. The late Larson wrote Rent's book, music and lyrics. The 1996 Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning musical continues at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City.
