"Rent" film co-stars Jesse L. Martin and Tracie Thoms as well as stage and screen vets Jason Ritter and Jess Weixler have been cast in the forthcoming play-based film "Peter and Vandy," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ritter and Weixler will take on the title roles in the romantic comedy, which follows the love story of a young New York couple in a non-chronological format. Martin and Thoms will play friends.

All four leads have been seen on stage and screen: Ritter (Third, "The Class," "Happy Endings"), Weixler (Stay, "Teeth"), Martin (Rent, "Law & Order," the forthcoming "Sexual Healing") and Thoms (Drowning Crow, "Cold Case," "Grindhouse: Death Proof").

DiPietro appeared in and directed his play in 2002 at the Paradise Theater. The play, which also featured Monique Vukovic, earned a Drama Desk Award nomination.

Peter Sterling and Austin Stark will produce the film with Matt Parker and Carly Hugo as co-producers.
