After close to 3000 people showed up for the open call in New York for Rent July 12, the show's producers and casting directors are still in New York weeding through the faces. The second stage of auditions, the call-backs, have just begun. "Call backs started today [July 19]," a spokesman for Rent said. "They've also got a chunk of time set aside to see call-backs on Monday and Tuesday and they'll continue through next week."
Of the thousands of people who auditioned, the casting director and producers found somewhere between 80 and 125 people to call back for roles. They would like to spend more time with each of these auditioners since they were only allowed 16 or, in a few cases, 32 bars in the original audition.
There is no news of when the cast will be posted because they still have to travel to other cities and hold auditions there. When we know of these auditions we will post them on-line.
