Jorge Gonzalez's new play, Vieques, will be given a staged reading by Repertorio Espanol April 25, at 6:30 PM, at the Gramercy Arts Theatre Off-Broadway. Vieques, a comedy set on a small island off Puerto Rico, won first prize in this year's Metropolitan Life Foundation "Nuestra Voces" Playwriting Competition. An awards ceremony honoring the play will be held just prior to the reading. Happyland by Rob Santana won second place; Eugene Rodriguez's The San Juan Shakespeare Company won third; first runner-up was I Love America by Lidia Ramirez; and second runner up is Yaya by Anthony Ruiz. Each will receive a reading in weeks to come.
Vieques will get a full production in the fall.
