Replacements Arrive for Striking Ballet Concierto Dancers

Classic Arts News   Replacements Arrive for Striking Ballet Concierto Dancers

Dancers from the Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico, on strike until their company makes its financial records available, claim that at least two dancers have arrived to substitute in the company's Nutcracker, the New York Times reports.

The dancers' lawyers say that one of the dancers is from the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Both dancers are American.

Ballet Concierto's dancers claim that the company has approached dancers at DTH and American Ballet Theatre in order to recruit replacements when the dancers staged their boycott of Nutcracker rehearsals. The dancers are angry about having to take a month's hiatus after the Nutcracker performances in order to save money.

Ballet Concierto claims it has been forthcoming with all financial information.

According to the Times, the union representing DTH's dancers said that penalties would be sought for strikebreakers.
