The latest Disney animated film to be converted into a stage production is The Little Mermaid, and Matthew Bourne is to be the director, reported The New York Post. Bourne made a splash a season ago with his all-male Swan Lake. The show won him two Tony awards.
Other Disney theatre projects reportedly in the works are Pinocchio, directed by Lion King helmer Julie Taymor; and Hoopz, a musical about the rise of the Harlem Globetrotters, co-directed by Kenny Leon and Savion Glover and choreographed by Glover.
Disney's Aida opened at Broadway's Palace Theatre on March 23.
