A London newspaper reports that British producer Cameron Mackintosh is considering a stage adaptation of the Disney film musical Mary Poppins with Fiona Shaw in the title role.
The Independent of London reported that the producer of Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables "was brought in to secure the rights to the Disney songs, and the buzz is that Stephen Daldry will direct" with Shaw in the title role.
Shaw earned enthusiastic reviews for Richard II and Machinal (also directed by Daldry) at the Royal National Theatre in London.
