According to the Sunday Mirror, rock-star Rod Stewart is the latest to receive the West End musical treatment. Ben Elton has written a script based around the music and antics of rocker Rod Stewart, which has been sent to Rod's management. All that is now required is the star's approval. A source has said that the project "is at a very early stage," although Elton has written a story and selected which tunes he wants to use, including classics such as Maggie May and Do You Think I'm Sexy?. The working title for the project is Rod: The Musical and there can certainly be no shortage of colourful material on which to draw. Its outcome now hinges on what Rod himself thinks and the deal that can be agreed.

Ben Elton made his musical debut with The Beautiful Game, which he co-wrote with Andrew Lloyd Webber and although it was a critical success, it was not perhaps as commercially successful as might have been hoped. He is obviously keen to have another go as he is currently in the late stages of development of We Will Rock You, a musical based on the songs of Queen, to be directed by Christopher Renshaw (who recently directed The King and I) and tipped to open at the Dominion Theatre sometime next year.
