Liz Smith reports that the two-time Tony Award winner will star in the new musical Wilder this fall at Playwrights Horizons. Wilder, the world premiere musical by lyricist- librettist Erin Cressida Wilson and composer-lyricists Mike Craver and Jack Herrick, plays the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, the intimate studio on the fourth floor of the PH HQ on West 42nd Street. It was bumped from 2002-03 into the 03-04 season. Lisa Portes directs the piece, described as "an erotic chamber musical about a boy who hits puberty while living in a Depression-era bordello." Previews are set to begin Oct. 16.
Cullum, a two-time Tony winner for his work in Shenandoah and On the Twentieth Century, has also starred on Broadway in Camelot, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Boys in Autumn, Hamlet, 1776, All My Sons, Show Boat and Old Money. Also a film and TV star, his screen credits include "The Secret Life of Algernon," "1776," "Sweet Country," "Hawaii," "Northern Exposure," "Law & Order" and "Touched By An Angel."
